Facial and Body Mesotherapy

What is Mesotherapy?

The term mesotherapy is referred to a non invasive medical procedure of multiple (micro) injections with many variations and important applications in anti-aging. It can be applied on face and body for different problems. There are many types of mesotherapy: point by point injections where we inject microdroplets of the mesotherapy solution (‘cocktail’) into each injection on the face or neck for rejuvenation. The mesotherapy ‘cocktail’ is different depending on the type of problem. The facial mesotherapy is ideal for hydration, skin whitening, smoothing of wrinkles and skin tightening (firming) while body mesotherapy is ideal for cellulite, stretch marks and local fat. There are ready-made mesotherapy ‘cocktails’, but the dermatologist has also the possibility to make his/her own ‘cocktail’ by choosing the combination of ingredients that are needed according to the case.

A variation of traditional mesotherapy is PRP autologous mesotherapy (or Vampire Lifting) that has many applications apart from anti-aging, using the patient’s blood to isolate platelets containing growth factors (PRP). After the blood is processed, the platelet-rich plasma is injected with multiple injections where the skin regeneration is required.

Mesotherapy with Dermapen. In this application, emphasis is given to the speed and intensity of the micro-injury that is going to be applied with an automated way that includes a multi-needle head attached to a specific machine. It is an evolution of the older mesotherapy technique with roller. The needles go up and down quickly, "grazing" the skin, creating hundreds of small holes in the skin. From these small holes, it is possible to pass through the ingredients that are suitable for our treatment. At the same time, due to micro-injury, the production of collagen is stimulated for correcting wrinkles, acne scars and stretch marks. Repeated repetitions per month are required, depending on the problem.

Which are the ingredients that contained in a mesotherapy ‘cocktail’ and which are the benefits?

The mesotherapy ‘cocktails’ vary depending on the problem we want to solve. Usually, in the anti-aging treatments, the mesotherapy ‘cocktails’ include hyaluronic acid, that is different from fillers (non-cross-linked molecule) whose main function is hydration and the creation of a suitable environment for cell regeneration. At the same time, vitamins, minerals and peptides with antioxidant action are included. On skin with superficial fine wrinkles, there are ‘cocktails’ where botulinum toxin is added, having as a result these wrinkles are smoothed due to the micro-injections. Also, in the skin types with increased facial sweating, the incorporation of botulinum toxin into mesotherapy reduces sweating.

In this way, we create the ideal environment for our skin in order to defend and regenerate using ingredients that it cannot receive even when we follow the most balanced diet. It is an ideal treatment for all ages, both for prevention and correction of the signs of photoaging and chronological aging. The treatment usually leaves no bruises and can be applied without restriction by the sun all year round. The treatment can be applied on the face, neck, decollete and hands and the result is a fresher, glowing and rejuvenated skin.

What is achieved with facial mesotherapy?

With facial mesotherapy, two functions are achieved simultaneously: through the mechanical micro-injury of the skin by the needles, the production of collagen is stimulated. This happens because the skin, perceiving the injury, activates the healing mechanisms resulting in fresher and firmer skin, fewer wrinkles and scars. The other function that is offered by mesotherapy is the optimal penetration of the ingredients that the skin needs for anti-aging and skin renewal. These substances (hyaluronic acid, vitamins, etc.) are not sufficiently absorbed by the cosmetics, while with the micro-injections, these substances are offered exactly where it is needed and in the appropriate amount. Depending on the problem we would like to correct (wrinkles, dehydration, brown spots, skin sagging), we choose the suitable substances for injection e.g. hyaluronic acid, bleaches, peptides, firming ingredients while it can be combined with the incorporation of botulinum toxin in the ‘cocktail’ in case of special applications. Finally, a special category is autologous mesotherapy, where the mesotherapy ‘cocktail’ for skin regeneration is created by our own blood with the appropriate processing.

Body Mesotherapy - Local Fat

Mesotherapy treats annoying problems in the appearance of the body’s skin such as cellulite and skin sagging, while special lipolytic substances help to reduce the local fat.

Lipolysis mesotherapy treatments are performed with deeper injections than those of cellulite, at 13 mm and contain fat dissolving substances such as deoxycholic acid (DCA) and phosphatidylcholine (PDC). They are not applied often (once a month) up to 3 times in the same area. The aim is to reduce fat from areas with increased fat deposition e.g. double chin, sides of the abdomen, the ‘love handles’, knees, in people with normal weight.

Body mesotherapy - Cellulite

Mesotherapy for cellulite treatment is performed by the penetration of thin needles at 6 mm and acts by reducing the swelling (oedema) in the fat cells and improving the microcirculation (and the fluid retention). It contains substances such as caffeine, artichoke, hyaluronidase, DMAE, and others. Depending on the problem, 4-6 treatments are required every 7-10 days.

Body mesotherapy - Skin Sagging

The skin sagging in several parts of the body is mainly treated with radio frequencies. In many cases, we combine RF treatment with mesotherapy for better results. Also, the slight skin sagging superficially on the skin (e.g. inner part of the arms, knee, and neck) responds very well to mesotherapy with Dermapen - once a month for 3 sessions. We also prefer mesotherapy with Dermapen when we have newly formed stretch marks (red / pink).

What are the effects of mesotherapy and how long do they last?

Depending on the age and the lifestyle of each person (smoking, sun exposure, exercise, stress) the duration of the results varies. If the appropriate regimen is followed for each case, the results of mesotherapy last for one year. For lipolysis, the results are permanent (at a constant body weight).

Is Mesotherapy a Painful Treatment?

The facial mesotherapy is performed by using an anesthetic cream that is applied 1 hour before treatment. It is tolerated by everyone. The body mesotherapy usually does not need anesthesia, although some patients, who are sensitive to the injections of even the thinnest needle, want to use an anesthetic cream there, too.

Are there any side effects?

The redness that lasts 1-2 days is usually the expected effect of mesotherpy with dermapen. Small bruises are rare in the facial mesotherapy and are more common in body mesotherapy but they recede quickly. Injection Lipolysis usually causes swelling that recedes after 7-8 days so that it is recommended to be applied in winter. In mesotherapy with anti-aging or bleaching substances the occurrence of allergies is very rare. An allergy test can be preceded 2-3 days before the treatment with 1-2 injections in people who report allergies.
